My name is Mark Carr. I’m a lawyer from California and have lived in Barcelona for 26 years. I’ll help you find and buy property in or near Barcelona. I advise on what to buy, where to buy, negotiate the price, and manage the process.

I was born and raised in Iowa and practiced law in San Diego. I moved to Barcelona in 2000 and worked in a real estate law firm before founding Spain Advisors in 2015. In 2010, I bought an apartment near Sagrada Familia, and in 2025, another one in the Barcelona area of Clot. I met my wife here, and we raised a family. We love it. It’s a great place to live.

What I do:
1) Help you draft your buying criteria, either for a residence or for an investment.
2) Send you links to properties that meet your criteria.
3) Call the agent(s) to set up visits.
4) Visit the property in person. You can appear in person or by video.
5) Negotiate the price. I normally offer 10-15% under the listed price.
6) If you want to make an offer, I analyze the property documents, arrange an architect inspection, and
conduct other due diligence to be sure the property is safe to buy.
7) If they accept your offer, I negotiate the pre-sales contract(s) and propose conditions to protect your
interests.
8) Handle communications with your bank, the seller, their agent and resolve issues that come up.
9) Prepare the deed and sign it with you at the notary’s office, or sign for you via power of attorney.

3) A money-transfer service.
4) Real estate agents.
5) Rental management companies, architects, a Spanish tax ID service, renovation companies...
 

Having one contact to find these services will save you a lot of hassle. Non-Spaniards are at a disadvantage because of the foreign laws, procedures, and language. You overcome these challenges because I handle it, and explain each step through the process.
